Maintains and enhances existing software, web-based applications, databases, reports, and computer systems to ensure optimal utilization and throughput.Interacts with researchers and physician scientists to gather requirements, validate design and maintain relationships.Prepares technical documents by designing tables and other objects within the database to generate usable views and reports for customers and creates backup documentation of systems and servers.Ensures operating systems, languages, utility programs, information retrieval and support systems, and other general software packages are current and reliable for departmental and mission critical servers.Performs advanced systems diagnosis and troubleshooting to ensure enterprise-wide systems are available and generates system utilization studies and makes adjustments to operating systems for optimization and recommends hardware and software changes as required.Provide regular feedback regarding technology issues and advice on new developments in hardware and software and the implementation thereof, working with UNMC IT personnel, Nebraska Medicine IT and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) personnel to ensure that information systems are functioning properly internally.Manages problem log to ensure issues are handled appropriately to satisfactory resolution, documenting issues/conversations in appropriate format. Manages day-to-day activities in the collection of biomedical data from many sources and integration of this data into new forms to facilitate research, providing a sound infrastructure to help investigators share data in a secure manner, analyze their data using advanced computational tools. Enhances the departmental cores’ infrastructure for tracking and workflow to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with national initiatives.Working with the chair, core medical directors, and assistant director of public services laboratories and translational research, lead information management and operational process improvement projects to ensure IT deliverables and activities are prioritized and successfully implemented to meet the cores’ business needs and research protocols consistent with overall project strategic objectives. Plans, manages, monitors and implements multiple information management and/or operational process improvement projects using standard project management methodology and determined process principles. Identify and scope potential information management and/or operational improvement projects. Demonstrates strong leadership competencies and application of skills that exhibit effective decision-making, strong emotional-intelligence, and the establishment of trusting relationships that positively influence the successful implementation of projects. Successfully work within a framework of ambiguity to collectivize all required stakeholder requirements and buy-in for effective decision-making in a way that maximizes end-user satisfaction with the product or service being implemented. Provides channel of communication for project status and issues through the collection and reporting of information during all stages of the project life cycle. Maintains a high level of interaction with all stakeholders to effectively identify key areas of opportunity to integrate thought processes, work processes, and eliminate duplication and waste where possible to achieve positive project outcomes. Develops and prepares training materials related to new systems and documentation to provide education as to system features and capabilities.
