Under direction of the NCPS Board of Directors and in collaboration with NCPS Committees:  

  1. Implement the goals and objectives of NCPS in support of its mission.  
  2. Execute an annually updated strategic plan that promotes the fiscal security and growth of NCPS.
  3. Develop agendas and facilitate regular meetings of NCPS Board of Directors and Committees.  
  4. Ensure compliance with all federal regulations required to maintain listing as a federal Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
  5. Maintain compliance with Nebraska statutes related to operations as a PSO and a non-profit corporation.
  6. Maintain compliance with NCPS articles of incorporation and bylaws.
  7. Ensure compliance with legal contracts with NCPS members, subcontractors and vendors and for NCPS services.
  8. Develop, update, and ensure compliance with NCPS policies and procedures.   
Fiscal Management20X

Under direction of the NCPS Board of Directors and in collaboration with NCPS Treasurer, Finance Committee, and our accounting firm:  

  1. Ensure appropriate documentation of NCPS financial transactions in compliance with UNMC and NCPS policies and procedures. 
  2. Report NCPS financial status to the NCPS Board and Finance Committee in an accurate and timely manner.
  3. Maintain the safety and confidentiality of NCPS fiscal operations.
  4. Develop and annually update NCPS membership fees. 
  5. Submit work plans as required to obtain funds from the Nebraska Patient Safety Cash Fund.
  6. Develop an annual operating budget based on a forecast of fiscal needs and ensure allocation of expenditures to proper classifications and within budget parameters.
  7. Identify external funding opportunities in the form of federal, state (e.g., the Nebraska Patient Safety Cash Fund), and local grants and coordinate the writing and submission of applications for these grants.  
Staff Supervision15X

Responsible for direct supervision of NCPS PSO Workforce, which includes a Patient Safety Statistician I and Patient Safety Program Director:

  1. Supervise and assist the Patient Safety Program Director to ensure educational offerings, stakeholder communications, and all deliverables are consistent with the current best evidence.  
  2. Supervise the Patient Safety Statistician to ensure reports and analyses effectively communicate findings.
  3. Conduct annual performance evaluations.
  4. Approve time sheets and leave requests submitted by NCPS workforce.
  5. Conduct regular team meetings of NCPS workforce to ensure a shared mental model of roles and responsibilities and deliverables for shared outreach/communications, educational, and reporting responsibilities.
  6. Facilitate career development of NCPS workforce.
  7. Recruit personnel in compliance with NCPS and UNMC hiring policies and procedures.   
Outreach and Communications15X

Under direction of the NCPS Board of Directors and in collaboration with NCPS workforce and Committees:  

  1. Facilitate working relationships with member organizations and recruit nonmembers to join NCPS.
  2. Scan the environment to keep the NCPS Board informed of local, state and national patient safety initiatives and issues.
  3. Facilitate essential communications between NCPS, member organizations and the five founding associations, and other stakeholders as identified by the Board.
  4. Ensure the timely completion and distribution of an annual report by NCPS workforce to NCPS Stakeholders. 
  5. Prepare additional reports as directed by the Board. 
Event Reporting15X

Under direction of the NCPS Board of Directors and in collaboration with NCPS Reporting Committee:  

  1. Encourage reporting of patient safety events by member organizations.
  2. Ensure reporting of patient safety events is in compliance with PSO security requirements and the Patient Safety Activities of a PSO for members and subcontractors.   
  3. Ensure Patient Safety Program Director delivers effective, evidence-based, and timely feedback to individual members regarding strengths and limitation in reporting and to all members that summarizes lessons learned from aggregate analysis.
  4. Respond to member inquiries for assistance with event investigations, including RCA support and facilitation.
  5. Respond to and/or delegate to NCPS workforce member requests for resources related to patient safety concerns.

Under direction of the NCPS Board of Directors:  

  1. Develop a strategic framework for patient safety educational programs that meet the needs of NCPS stakeholders and guide NCPS workforce.
  2. Lead NCPS workforce to ensure effective development, planning, and execution of educational programs, reports (including an annual report to stakeholders), and communications that are consistent with current evidence.

This position is highly visible in the state and region and the decisions and recommendations made could affect public image of both the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Nebraska Coalition for Patient Safety. This position has a direct impact to NCPS membership and on the accomplishment of NCPS goals and objectives.

This position meets monthly with the Executive Board of Directors and collaborates with them regarding organizational success strategies, financial concerns, and any unforeseen significant issues.

This position meets quarterly with the complete NCPS Board of Directors to update them on financial performance, organizational initiatives, and gain their perspectives on needed strategies for the organization to meet its goals/mission.

This position meets every other month with the UNMC Vice Dean and Professor, Interim Chair Health Services Research and Administration
