Responsibilities and Duties

Cancer Center Support Grant40

1. Analyzes current NCI CCSG guidelines and makes recommendations to FPBCC senior leadership based on impact of changes to guidelines. (E)
2. Performs as frontline contact for senior leadership, program and shared resources leadership providing guidance on all NCI guidelines, including analysis and notification of changing guidelines and required responses, (E)
3. Reviews and analyzes information and regulations regarding renewal and continuation submissions and plan submission processes accordingly. (E)
4. Finalizes all timeline/deadlines for submissions of all elements of complex grant. (E)
5. Manages the coordination of all CCSG Supplement renewal and continuation submissions including writing of grant or grant sections and proofreading/editing all sections. (E)
6. Reviews/approves prepared framework for non-competing renewals. (E)
7. Prepares and analyzes multiple CCSG reports as required for all submissions. (E)
8. Ensures proposal compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements (i.e. Biohazards, Human Subjects, Conflict of Interest, etc.) (E)
9. Works with institutional sponsored projects administration on all submission and follow-up requirements. (E)
10. Recommends and implements organizational procedures and solutions, including overall timeline(E)
11. Reports on goals and status of ongoing projects. (E)
12. Oversees all management and coordination of all preparations and planning for site visit and site visit rehearsals including staff scheduling, preparation of data and reports, assistance with preparation of slide presentations and materials, vendor arrangements and management of all expenses. 13. Oversees all preparation and maintenance of extensive records regarding Cancer Center progress and activities (for site visit presentation).
14. Oversees Finance staff regarding compliance with NIC regulations as applicable to ongoing post-awards budgets. (E)
15. Serves as primary source of communication with federal agency and awardees regarding re-budgeting, changes and required additional information. (E)

Fiscal Management35

1. Responsible for developing implementing and monitoring all fiscal aspects of the FPBCC#s revenues and expenses for the research and administrative enterprises. (E)
2. Develops (in conjunction with the Cancer Center Director) the annual budget and monitors revenues, expenditures and variances on a monthly basis, including all funds from the CCSG. (E)
3. Provides the Director with an analysis of financial reports by division or program. Maintains oversight independent authority for management of the FPBCC#s financial portfolio. Reviews and approves special expenditure request. Monitor expenses by producing and reviewing variance reports; authorizes appropriate action to adjust expenditures as necessary. (E)
4. Establishes control and evaluation systems as required by program/service directors to maintain approved budgets. Directs accounting activities through subordinate supervisors. Acts on behalf of the Director in negotiations needed for program development. facilities and current operations. (E)

Organizational Planning10

1. Develops and implements short-and long-range strategic plans to improve total operation by assuring efficient and cost-effective results to meet the needs and mission of both University and Nebraska Medical Center. (E)
2. Identifies and analyzes organization needs for new or revised initiatives. Complies relevant data from a variety of internal and external sources to develop alternatives and make oral and written recommendations for review and decision-making. (E)
3. Assumes administrative responsibility for new program implementation, including budget, staffing, space, equipment, etc.(E)
4. Monitors operational activities to assure timely achievement of plans. (E)
5. Develops action plans for adjustments where plans are not capable of being implemented. (E)
6. As delegated by Director, reviews and approves grant applications submitted by members to external funding sources to assure the Center resources (space, core services) are used appropriately and effectively. (E)

Human Resource Management10

1. Directly supervises six staff and indirectly supervises, through subordinates, three additional staff positions. (E)
2. Reviews and approves all staff personnel actions, including selection, training, employee development, employee appraisal, recommendations for merit increases and all phases of corrective action. (E)
3. Ensure that all employees receive regular written performance evaluations and that proper follow-up is maintained when an employee#s job performance warrants remedial action. (E)
4. Directly supervises, evaluates and contributes to the professional development of personnel. (E)
5. Develops (or arrange for development of), reviews and monitors job descriptions and classifications in relations to function and cost effectiveness. (E)
6. Establishes ongoing employee appreciation events and activities, as approved by the Director. (E)
