Responsibilities and Duties

Support a high containment biosafety and biosecurity program.70X

Work with the UNMC Biosafety Officer, Environmental Health Services, Comparative Medicine and Export Control

  1. With the Biosafety Officer, develop and update high containment biosafety and biosecurity policies, SOPs, safety manuals, outreach materials, and guidance documents. (E)
  2. Serve on the UNMC Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). (E)
  3. Coordinate with other UNMC compliance groups. (E).
  4.  With the Biosafety Officer, create, implement, and maintain site-specific security, biosafety, and incident response plans in compliance with Select Agent regulations. (E).
  5. Coordinate access, operations, and ongoing maintenance and verification of the high containment facilities and equipment on the UNMC campus. (E)
  6. Maintain a current inventory of biohazardous agents utilized or stored in high containment facilities. (E)
  7. Develop and maintain a facility risk management plan. (E) 
  8. With the Occupational Health Manager, develop and maintain the Occupational Health clearance for individuals working in high containment areas.   
  9. Complete other duties as assigned to reduce institutional and research personnel risks while maintaining an environment of safety during the conduct of research involving biohazards that require high containment. (E)
Develop and coordinate biosafety and biosecurity training programs for high containment facilities.30X
  1. Deliver and audit training of faculty and staff involved in high containment research and monitor their performance post-training as deemed necessary by the IBC. (E)
  2. Provide and document situation-appropriate training to individuals escorted into registered space prior to entering registered space.
  3. Provide site-specific drills or exercises. (E)
