1. Daily chairside assisting, including all related functions in compliance with standards for the profession and as allowed by applicable state law. Care may include multiple treatment venues including but not limited to the clinic, hospital ward, operating room emergency room, off-site care facility. (E)
2. Assist in chairside management of special needs patients in addition to general adult dental patients. (E)

Sterilization and asepsis15

1. To perform those duties required as they pertain to the sterilization of dental materials, instruments and equipment under the direction of the dental office supervisor. (E)
2. Responsible for equipment care within the clinic. (E)

Miscellaneous duties as assigned5

1. Restocking of operatories and clinic areas. Maintaining a dental operatory that is prepared, well-stocked with necessary supplies, equipment, instruments and materials as well as aseptic in presentation. This includes but is not limited to instruments, storage cabinets and delivery unit cleanliness and maintenance. (E)
2. Patient escort and interpersonal relationships, includes timely escorting of the patient to and from the treatment area as well as possibly assisting in patient transfers or transfer assistance given a medical condition or inability to ambulate. Patient-resident-faculty-staff interactions are to be focused on efficient delivery of care in a timely and professional manner. Give oral hygiene and/or procedural explanations to patients. Demonstrate dental assisting techniques to dental assistant students, dental students and house officers if requested. (E)
3. Participation in clerical support duties as directed by superiors, assistance in the accurate completion of routing slips, participation in clinic and university-based quality control processes, the scheduling of patients by telephone or in person, confirmation of dental appointments, participation in clinic/educational meetings pertinent to patient care and carrying out the program curriculum. (E)
4. Maintenance of continuing education and on-going employee training requirements. (E)

1. Adherence to and up-to-date knowledge of all applicable University and Clinic policies and procedures required for clinic operation, including but not limited to participation in and documentation of radiographic hygiene practices, radiographic monitoring, radiographic equipment monitoring and registration, autoclave performance and monitoring, sterilized packaging dating/shelf storage monitoring, chemical, pharmaceutical and medicament logs/storage, surface disinfection and cold sterilization monitoring, refrigeration monitoring, chemical spills biohazards and infectious materials management/disposal. 2. Maintenance of up-to-date manufacturer safety data sheets (MSDS). (E)
3. Keep current on new techniques. (E)
