1. Provides basic care, feeding, and husbandry of all species used for research at UNMC as required. (D)

Daily Activities Required to Operate Operating Rooms20

1. Assist with and perform the daily activities required to operate operating rooms to include scheduling, set-up of equipment, supply stocking, santization ans sterilization of intruments and equipment, pack preparation, autoclaving, surgical gowning, gloving, aseptic tecnique, pre-operative care, anesthetic induction and maintenance where indicated, performing post-operative care and breakdown and sanitization of the treatment, recovery, operating rooms, diagnostic facility, and necropsy rooms. 2. Duties include checking to insure that the equipment used in these areas is operationally ready, and that user-level supplies are adequate. (E)

Laboratory Animal Quality Assurance/ Health Surveillance Program20

 

1. Assists in the implementation of the laboratory animal quality assurance/ health surveillance program. This quality assurance/ health surveillance program includes   obtaining samples for routine serology, necropsies of sentinel animals, obtaining samples from incoming animals, and performing in house laboratory tests to aid the diagnosis and prevention of diseases. (E)
2. Helps maintain appropriate records for these services. (E)

 

Medical Rounds15

1. Performs medical rounds and examines animals that appear to have medical problems. (E)
2. Performs medical treatments based on the professional advice and guidance that is provided by the Attending Veterinarian. (E)

Clinical Service10

1. Performs clinical service work including receiving, quarantine and physical examination of incoming animals, restraint of animals, blood collection, drug adminstration, surgery, post operative care, euthansia, necropsy, and tissue collection. (E)

Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory10

1. Assist in the operation of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory including performing limited diagnostic testing. (E)
2. Prepares, packages and mails tissue and serum samples. (E)

Must be highly organized and detail oriented,

Errors made by the incumbent in this position will have minor to major impact depending on the nature of the work assignment. The effect of errors made in the course of work could range from accidental destruction of research specimen's or projects, to non-compliance with Federal, State and local regulations which may jeopardizes UNMC's AAALAC accreditation an/or USDA license.
