Responsibilities and Duties

Patrols University property (including buildings, parking lots, and open areas) and surrounding areas as assigned by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to deter, locate, and apprehend persons committing crimes or unlawful activities.

Respond to and Investigate Calls for Service20X

  • Responds to and investigates any call for service, belated or #in progress# including, but not limited to alarms, burglaries, larcenies, assaults, and alcohol/drug related crimes.
  • Responds to medical calls, renders first aid, and arranges for emergency medical treatment.

Investigations20X

  • Conducts accident investigations. Conducts criminal civil investigations to gather, document, and preserve evidence; writes criminal and civil incident reports. Counsels, detains, cites, and/or arrests members of the public responsible for criminal activity and makes appropriate dispositions; transports to detoxification, mental health, or medical facilities, or books into jail or youth detention facilities.
  • Prepares complete, concise and accurate case file documentation of investigations including referrals, citations, reports, and court documents. Provides documentation to appropriate state, federal and local agencies as required by law.

Answers questions from students, employees and the general public regarding laws, ordinances, incidents or services.

  • Provides traffic and crowd control; responds to life threatening situations; provides non-police related support services as needed, such as locking and unlocking buildings and facilities, call-outs of maintenance, grounds, custodial, academic and administrative personnel for incidents occurring during evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Implements district emergency preparedness plan including emergency evacuation plans, secures perimeters, coordinates fire, medical, communication, utilities, and other emergency services.
  • Attends mandatory department training to maintain required police standards to include (but not limited to) firearms range, defensive tactics, motor vehicle pursuit, and criminal law.
  • Transports/delivers items to various locations as assigned
  • Responds to subpoenas; and testifies in Municipal, Superior, and Federal court as required; operates law enforcement computer systems.
  • Special assignments such as, but not limited to, emergency disaster planning, cadet program, evidence and property, crime prevention, gangs, detective, parking maintenance, or specific granted funded assignments.

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands required to adequately maintain safety for others and control scenes that may involve situations such as, but not limited to, needing to take a combative subject into custody.
  • Must be able to assist injured or intoxicated persons short or long distances while performing duties.
  • Must be able to communicate the English language through speech and in writing.
