Emergency Management35X

Oversees the on-going revision and maintenance of the University of Nebraska at Omaha Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and its annexes/appendices, including Emergency Support Functions, and other emergency management plans, policies, and procedures for all of the main campus and satellite buildings, departments/units, and personnel. Coordinates revisions with changing federal, state, and local agency programs. Keeps a current resource list identifying pertinent outside agencies or partners and their capabilities.

Emergency Preparedness25X

Keeps up to date with emergency preparedness issues and provides information to University departments. Assists University departments with critical incident planning, business continuity planning, strategy development, mitigation, preparations, response and recovery coordination and emergency preparedness. Assists in developing building and department emergency plans, and ensures that all plans adhere to local, state and federal regulations.

Emergency Communication15X

Responsible for regular operation of the University#s Emergency Notification System, Sharepoint and other Microsoft 356 resources, weather detection system, and GIS systems, to include coordination of data entry and accuracy, testing, and communicating needed maintenance of the system(s).

Representation5X

Serves as a University representative for various local, state, regional, and national/Federal emergency groups. Maintains close and cooperative relationships with internal and external constituents, including local fire, law enforcement, EMS providers, and local emergency management groups. Leverages relationships for effective and safe event and incident planning, training, and exercises.

Resource5X

Develops and manages working relationships with all constituencies and attends University meetings. Serves as a resource regarding information about emergency management, services, policies, and procedures. Is responsible for interpreting, implementing, and disseminating such information as appropriate.

Expands University preparedness by conducting training and exercises based on identified threats and vulnerabilities.

Grants5X

Applies for federal, state, and regional grant funding for emergency management related needs, and reports on the progress of such grants.

· A high level of energy, the ability to work in a self-directed manner, the ability to perform under stress, and the ability to work long hours with short notice and a good attitude are required.
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required (must be demonstrated). This includes the ability to build consensus, a high level of creativity, and a high degree of flexibility in changing environments.
· Successful experience in management of projects and activities involving engagement and collaboration across a wide spectrum of diverse functions is desired.
· Career experiences in professional disciplines other than emergency management, for which the skills required for success mirror the other qualifications requirements cited in this section, may replace all or part of the specialized emergency management experiences requirement. Job areas that may qualify, depending on scope of responsibility, includes risk management, health/safety, police, fire, homeland security, project management, etc.
· ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800 courses, or the ability to complete them within one week of employment.
· Certification as an Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through IAEM is required within three years of employment.
Technological proficiency is required. Computer skills such as Adobe and Microsoft 365, including Powerpoint, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, and Sharepoint, are required. Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Mac OS, Windows, iOS, Android, and various radios, webcams, satellite phones, copy/scanner/fax/printer equipment, KVM switches, televisions/monitors, and videoconferencing solutions, both dedicated and ad hoc, is desired.

Impact


The University of Nebraska at Omaha community will be impacted by the EM Coordinator and their ability to lead, educate, inform and motivate campus constituents in emergency planning and strategies; monitor for threats to campus and communicate effectively with campus constituents; provide leadership and direction for the Incident Command Team; and by implementing and maintaining emergency response equipment and technologies.
