Requires the ability to understand and work within a residence hall system at a midsized institution. Knowledge of student development theory and how it can be applied to a residence hall environment that supports the academic pursuits of residents. Must have the ability to understand, interpret, apply and communicate information regarding the daily operations of a residence hall and the students and staff associated with the resident halls. The Residence Life Coordinator must be able to apply limited analysis in the completion of general functional procedures such as occupancy management, student conduct, and logistics associated with programming. Required to have knowledge of operations at a University setting. Residence Life Coordinators are required to use office related machines such as but not limited to computers and photo copiers. Requires the ability to apply, integrate and communicate extensive theoretical information on student development. |
Residence Hall Coordinators must be able to apply departmental and University policies and procedures to a diverse number of challenges. The Residence Hall Coordinator will make decisions or devise problem resolutions that require interpretation, discretion, and judgment based upon precedent or standard operating policies and procedures. Decisions/problem resolutions faced by the Residence Life Coordinator require analysis and evaluation of major issues and courses of action impacting the overall direction of the functional area. The position may develop recommendations influencing long-term policies related to major organizational plans. Many of the responsibilities associated with the position, specifically crisis management and emergency response require staff to maintain composure and make justifiable decisions while under pressure. |
The actions and decisions of the Residence Hall Coordinator will have significant impact to the short-term performance of the Program/Team and exert an impact to its long-term success. The job exerts a considerable impact on decisions and final results typically affecting either an entire functional area or a major university activity; and may have unique accountability for financial and program or project objectives. Errors affect business operations, services and other individuals which may require special interventions to correct. |
The Residence Hall Coordinator will interact daily and have regular contact with students, parents, University staff, and other stakeholders. Regular contact involves giving or obtaining information as well as exchanging advice and opinions. This position requires the use of common business courtesy, tact, discretion and some persuasion to maintain cooperative associations. Residence Hall Coordinators will exchange advice and opinions as well as occasionally conveying conceptual ideas of a critical and/or long-range nature and requires the use of judgment, timing, and persuasion to gain cooperation in the face of differences of opinion or controversy. |
