Grounds Maintenance25X

Plans, develops, prioritizes, and manages efficient, and economical grounds maintenance tasks in accord with the seasonal calendar, the University calendar, and with current weather conditions to assure that ascertained levels of appearance, plant health, cleanliness, and public safety are attained on a daily basis.

Project Layout and Plant Care25X

Survey sites and assist in actual project layout. Provide specific plant care, shrubs and trees, to include arbor work and soil improvement. Mow grass areas. Maintain flower beds. Propagate plants. Trim tree branches. Monitor details of a project area and complete work assignments on projects. Operate heavy and light landscape equipment. Remove snow and ice. Apply sand, salt, and ice melt. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision of Grounds Staff10X

Supervise grounds staff and manage grounds resources; Human Resources: Responsible for hiring, training, retaining staff, motivating subordinates; delegation of duties; effective use of human resources, EEO and AA. Fiscal management: Operate within authorized budget; evaluate fiscal needs, establishing priority spending, creating effective cost controls; generally managing the fiscal resources in a prudent manner.

Leadership and Management5X

Provide leadership to subordinates in planning, establishing and maintaining the highest achievable grounds programs commensurate with the resources made available.

Training and Quality Assurance5X

Coordinates training and quality assurance needs with others in Facilities Management and Planning.

Orientation and Training5X

Oversee and provide initial orientation and ongoing training on departmental operations, policies, plant care, basic irrigation practices, etc. Assign, inspect and evaluate work, providing regular feedback with coaching and praise. Communicate and enforce policies, practices and standards. Monitor and enforce attendance. Provide day-to-day communications with both formal and informal feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis. Sign and approve workgroup time entry. Guides, trains, and gives technical assistance to employees engaged in daily grounds maintenance tasks and projects, and inspects completed assignments to ensure that satisfactory work quality operating procedures, efficiency, progress, methods and practices, safety, and other established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained.

Client Contact and Coordination5X

Establishes and maintains direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of University community members affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety and appearance of the exterior Campus or other property. Consults with these clients with regard to concerns about maintenance frequencies, standards, appearance, disturbance, etc.

Grounds Activity Coordination5X

Coordinates, plans and develops grounds related work activities and projects with other campus departments and services.

Knowledge Maintenance5X

Maintain knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances involving chemical usage, tree care and safety requirements.

Recommendations and Evaluations5X

Make personnel recommendations within the grounds crew including staffing levels, hiring and development of priorities and standards for workgroup and work area. Provide annual evaluations of grounds staff.

Record System Maintenance5X

Establishes and maintains a system of records to include a correspondence file, a project file, a technical update file, equipment history and preventive maintenance file, and a personnel file to include attendance and training history. Participates in establishing and maintaining a task-related grounds maintenance inventory and maintains appropriate records. Participates in the Department computerized work management system, and utilizes pertinent management reports to schedule, evaluate and improve plant health, general landscape appearance and work performance.
