  • Carry out the vision for the new Center for Teaching and Learning, building on the existing model.
  • Lead and manage the operations of the Center for Teaching & Learning.
  • Develop and lead programs and initiatives that support equitable, evidence-based, and justice-driven teaching and advising excellence.
  • Lead efforts to assess the impact of Center initiatives on student learning outcomes and overall institutional effectiveness.
  • Oversee and facilitate the coordination of the CTL leadership team to conduct one-on-one consultations and course and advising observations for faculty.
  • Promote inclusive and equity-based advising and teaching practices that address the diverse needs of our student body.
  • Lead initiatives that elevate the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) across campus.
  • Design and implement new, innovative professional development programming for UNK revolving around advising and teaching.
Advance Strategic Partnerships20X
  • Engage faculty and staff across disciplines through and with the team of CTL leads to promote innovative teaching methods, curriculum design, and assessment strategies
  • Build faculty & staff development expertise and leadership locally while embracing Universal Design for Learning and the Ecological Framework.
  • Serve on and build partnerships with the Academic Innovation & Technology team & staff to support the integration of instructional technologies to enhance advising, teaching and learning.
  • Represent the Center for Teaching and Learning at university-wide committees, conferences, and external events, while including the CTL faculty leads when their work aligns with engagements.
  • Contribute expertise and leadership to university governance processes in advising and teaching practices, such as the creation of the Teaching Effectiveness Standards for Evaluation (TESE).
Workshop and Training Design and Facilitation20X
  • Identify, engage, and collaborate with the CTL leadership team to train faculty and staff to conduct workshops, seminars, and individual consultations across disciplines and schools to improve advising and teaching practices.
  • Serve as the lead liaison between the Center for Teaching & Learning and other university departments, including Academic Affairs, Information Technology, and Student Services.
  • Oversee the planning of university-wide events celebrating and supporting a culture of transformative advising, teaching and learning.
  • Partner with the Office of Academic Affairs to plan and implement advising and teaching-related components found in programs such as the New Faculty Orientation.
  • Develop and facilitate, as appropriate, faculty and staff learning communities on pedagogical and advising topics.
Continuous Improvement20X
  • Lead and supervise the professional development of faculty and staff affiliated with advising.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in advising and pedagogy by staying current with the research and best practices in higher education.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to maintain and improve digital resources, website, social media, newsletters, announcements, and the like to reflect current scholarship and feature UNK staff and faculty perspectives and practices.

A. COLLABORATION  and PROVIDE WORK DIRECTION

  • Supervise and work closely with the Center for Teaching & Learning support team & leadership team
  • Work closely with the Office of Graduate Studies and Academic Innovation team and other campus entities including but not limited to the Loper Success Hub.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders through clear, consistent, and tailored communication to ensure alignment, strengthen decision-making, and build trust. Provide regular updates, seek feedback, and adapt to stakeholder needs to foster inclusivity and support project success.

 

B. GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.
  • Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.
  • Maintains contact with faculty and staff and solicits feedback for improved services.
  • Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools, planned training and performance initiatives.
  • Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
  • Prepares progress reports; informs the OGSAI leadership team of project status and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
  • Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
  • Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

This position is responsible for a limited operational budget to support the initiatives of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
