Exceptional listening skills, empathetic and validating communication ability. Understanding of systems and technology platforms to support communication and manage cases. |
Decisions made by the academic advisor must serve the best interest of the students served by the Academic Advising and Career Development Office while ensuring that University policies and procedures are upheld. Attention to detail and accuracy are required, and creative thinking in solving problems and serving students’ needs. |
Works with the office leadership to help make data-informed decisions that best serve the students. Supports attainment of enrollment goals – both recruitment and retention, which impacts university business and sustains UNK’s mission. At this time, this is a temporary, grant-funded position over multiple years, with a plan to become sustainable through increased enrollment. |
The academic advisor must meet the needs of the students that the office serves and advocate for the needs of the department and the students to their supervisor. Highly collaborative with student success professionals, faculty, and support staff. Must be able to guide student workers, handle presentations to students and families, and establish rapport and trust with students and occasionally parents/partners. |
