Research and Consultation40X

Act as an advocate for researchers and research projects in the IT and research communities. Maintain operational awareness of available services provided by each ITS division. Support research workflows by identifying and connecting researchers with available IT services. Engage with researchers to answer technical questions, provide service referrals, and coordinate and perform technical solution development. Through interactions with researchers and the research community, inform future directions for Research IT services.

Administration and Coordination30X

Coordinate the IT aspects of research projects and initiatives identified as part of interactions with researchers, the research community, and ITS strategic initiatives and plans. Mentor Research IT Services student workers. Lead meetings and discussions with faculty and staff on the use of shared services supported by ITS. Identify process and service improvement initiatives. Analyze and summarize data, prepare reports, and provide input to grant proposals. Work with research faculty and labs to support and accelerate their research when leveraging Research IT services for the NU system.

Communication and Training20

IT coordination, communication, and training targeted at supporting the University of Nebraska System research community. Development of materials and presentations on the use of Research IT services and other technologies targeted at enabling and accelerating research at NU. Attend events to engage with research and the NU community and stay current with rapidly changing technologies and solutions.

A Research IT Coordinator must have knowledge of IT concepts and technologies used to provide services to our research community. Skilled in communicating with key constituent groups and stakeholders including researchers, students, and campus research offices. Ability to execute tasks to meet objectives on schedule. Ability to ensure alignment with industry best practices. Responsible for actively researching and staying abreast of industry trends and best practices. Knowledge of and experience with contracts, compliance frameworks, and regulations is preferred.

This position requires experience and knowledge of information technologies, research workflows, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The incumbent should have excellent facilitation and coordination skills. This position also requires knowledge of researcher expectations and trends particularly as they relate to the research enterprise in a higher education environment. It requires empathy with the user’s needs, desires and concerns. Skill in prioritizing and coordinating tasks within a team to achieve support metrics and project objectives.


Problem Solving - Decision Making


As a research IT subject matter professional, consult and provide direction on the use of ITS services. Develop documentation, FAQs, and other resources to enable researcher success.


Impact


The work of this position has direct impact on the University research community including principal investigators, graduate students, faculty researchers and the individual campus research offices. Activities involve consulting with researchers and research offices to identify core and common ITS services aligned with the research being accomplished. Engage in ITS priority projects and initiatives as assigned. Incumbent must understand that personal success is derived from customer and team success, and that providing a quality learning experience is the primary goal of the university.
